Mid-November mist

We had an unusually warm Monday, about 15 degrees, it created plenty of low-lying mist. I was able to be in the right plave to capture it with the warmth of the rising sun. Kudos to a long fall season and color-rich Nikon glass.

  1. Purple barn! No filters or anything, just the lens? Quite the collection of images you're amassing, Ron :)

  2. (Honestly, that D40 is plenty capable. Makes me want to get one to have as a carry-around camera. So much better image quality for the resolution compared to a p&s at the same megapixels. These shot with that Tamron lens?)

  3. Hey Sloanie - the barn image was enhanced with some magenta in the color balance scale with NX2. I used both Nikon zooms for all of these images, the VR is very handy as I often have to hand-hold at very slow shutter speeds.

The D40 is my "every day" camera. Most of the time, I don't need the 10.2 MP I get with the D80.

  4. I just revisited some photos I took with my 40D in 2008 along with either the 50mm f/1.4 or the 10-22mm... some lovely images, I'm not sure why I was so anxious to spend more money on a 5D :)

  5. What specific Nikon lens did you use for that last shot (orange sun setting w/ blue sky) that's @ 16mm?

  6. Yup, that's at the widest setting on the 16-85mm VR.

I had thought FF was the only way to go when I had my Canon stuff, the route was just too expensive and I felt my lenses may not be up to the task. APS-C is certainly more portable and the lenses are smaller - plus you get unique designs such as a 50-150mm f/2.8.

Perhaps FF will eventually take over once the price gets down, but APS-C has been assumed by the masses in droves....

  7. Certainly. My obsession with FF is a fruit of a film photography class and basically seeing the difference in resolution in FILM formats based on film size-- medium format had simply amazing detail. I love the 5D-- I kinda just wish I hadn't sold the 40D. Ah well-- I did use the sale of the 40D and the 10-22mm lens to help pay for new gear.

I'm thankful that my obsession with gear seems to have mostly passed (with the exception of wanting a few lighting accessories still, but that can wait). Though there are still a couple lenses I'd like to own, I don't lust after them or think about them much. Mostly I concentrate on actually taking photos (kinda like getting past the gear obsession with MD and getting to that point where you actually focus your attention on listening to music rather than what gear you have).

Anyways, love seeing that you're constantly taking photos and processing them. Gives them that little boost to really shine and show the world how you see it. Some great images here :)
