It's been some time that I posted to this blog, I find so few even look at blogs nowadays. Anyway, I had a blast shooting flowers and other colors in Renate's garden a few nights ago. The colors were wonderful, the light was ideal and even the flies were not a big deal. The old D50 always seems to give me unique results, I often think I should try to scrounge another one up before they disappear. I used both VR
zooms and the 500D close-up.

My new favourite place (for now!)

I guess it should not come as a shock that the best images you can get are often near your own home, there is no need to go any great distance to find your treasure. Such is the case for me with the abandoned Penney farm. Once a thriving industry, farming in Nova Scotia is all but dead except for some large-scale operations. Sadly, this property is more of a storage facility as anything else.

D60 and both VR zooms were used for these captures along with the "sweet" light....

Low tide

I have concluded after many years of shooting scenics that low tide works the best, you can see more of the coastline and its character. I visited on of my favourite spots on Sunday, the Hunts Point governance wharf, and my trusty Nikon 16-85mm VR "standard" zoom is wide enough to capture sweeping vistas - its performance far outdistances the typical kit zoom you get with DSLR's. Hope you enjoy them!

Is this art?

I had the rare chance to shoot a deer, this morning. The creature appeared behind my house as I was getting ready to leave for Bridgewater, I was lucky enough to have my gear bag close at hand. I carefully and quickly attached the 70-300mm VR to my D60, got out of the car, and expected the animal to bolt - but it didn't. I squeezed off about eight frames. I had to bump up the ISO to 800, and, still, at 1/125th second wide-open @ f/5.6, the files were underexposed. Thankfully, I shoot RAW and can fix most mistakes plus I made it into a b/w file.

I added some noise/grain to this for effect, kind of looks like a painting....

Bridge views - Upper LaHave

I have driven past this bridge a thousand times and never really noticed the brook and trees that surround it near the old Highway 3 road. I decided on Saturday to stop and photograph it, very aesthetically pleasing but not spectacular. I need to return here in the fall....D60 and 16-85mm VR.

No shadow on Groundhog Day

It seems that the winter of 2011 is an old-fashioned one, with snow that comes up to here (pointing at their necks as related to you by your parents when they were young), but we are currently getting nailed (again) as I type. I ventured out, this morning, with the D60 and Sigma 50-150mm zoom and got some good captures before round two of this latest storm hit - as it was, the snow had recommenced when I got home, had to dust off the camera....Spring is on its way=)

Gray tones of winter

It seems only natural that winter images be presented in a b/w tone as color simply is not usually apparent in most scenes. The tricky thing about snow exposures is getting the right amount of detail without burning out the snow or have it appear too dark. I have found that this was much easier to accomplish with film, the digital medium is not perfect.

The D60 had the little-used Tamron 17-50 as it's mate for these files.
