Fall colors - old train tracks

I have shot tens of thousands of fall images over the last 25 years, seems I have no need for any more. Of course, when the colors start to spring forth, I still get excited and go shoot.

Years ago, the government in its infinite stupidity decided the train tracks needed to go, the decision created a lot of negative consequences, such as premature road destruction by heavy load-laden trucks. The only benefit to most if from this momentous thinking was a comprehensive system of trails for four-wheelers, bicycles and motorbikes - and great walking pathways.

Anyway, I am slowly developing a love-hate relationship with my Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8, but its image quality always is assuredly excellent. Works well on the D80 as the AF is reasonably fast and postive.

Fall colors and produce at Jo-Ann's Deli Market

Another one of many traditions in Mahone Bay is the display of goodies at Jo-Ann's establishment, the colors are just amazing. It's still tourist season this time of year, and many people are crossing the busy streets in town to get to the market.

I could have spent an hour, here, but I was happy to get in a few snaps with the D60 as I sped towards an open house being held in Indian Point. I think I will go back in the near future and do some more exploring of the whole town as the fall colors continue to come fast and furiously......It seems it's all happening earlier than usual, maybe winter will arrive by late October........Ugh!

It's starting to look a lot like fall

After yesterday's positive wedding experience, I was struggling to find images as I drove to church. I had done some switching around SD cards and bodies, I found when I went to shoot at my first stop, there was no card in the D60 - how's that for a classic move? - I went back home and got one, but it seemed some of the magic of the light was gone. Still, I persevered and got a few decent captures, let's bring on the fall colors!

Between seasons

I have always found the gap between seasons a bit uneventful for photography, but it's there if you look hard enough. I had a couple hours to kill yesterday afternoon in Bridgewater; I visited the Brookside Cemetery and the DesBrisay Museum pond, I came away with some good results.

Furious waterfalls

I drove by the Carding Mills falls during the visit from Earl, it was gushing like a geyser. The rain stopped by mid-day so I took advantage of the fact I had all my photo gear with me - I had a wedding to shoot at 2pm.

Although the worst had blown past, there was some light rain, wind, and occasional sun.

Calm before the storm, although not quite calm.....

After I was finished at Hirtle's Beach, I decided to drop down to Blue Rocks and see if any drama was happening. The wind had really picked up but not the big swells that I was hoping to find. I was able to find the sweet light of the late evening (now 7:30pm!) and got some worthwhile captures.

Something other than soccer......

With the onset of a possible hurricane lading, the beach was a neat place to be just as the swells started. I stupidly took the wrong lens kit with me, having only my two f/2.8 zooms but not a lot of reach. Still, I was able to record some interesting people images.

I *may* go near the ocean, this morning, and try my hand at shooting the real swells as Earl makes landfall a couple hours. I'll make sure I am using the 70-300mm VR..........
