It was a peaceful little walk, today, heavy overcast light made shooting b/w more appropriate. The little Tamron 17-50mm does a nice job and shooting at f/5.6 is stopped down a fair amount, so sharpness is assured.

Water balloon activity

Seems children have a natural affinity for bringing water and fun together. It was a warm evening Saturday night, and a few people got wet either intentionally or just happened to be in the line of fire. Despite the fact I had some dress clothes on, someone nailed me with a water balloon and laughed about it. Rascal.

Sidewalk artwork

Last we had a games activity in the meetinghouse, everyone seemed to have fun and the creative children in our midst left their mark (albeit briefly) on the sidewalk with chalk. Always on guard for photo, these were easy to get........D40 and Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8.

Fresh new temple images

I arrived at the stake centre around an hour before I needed to start interviews, I took the opportunity to grab a few photos of the temple. There is always some new angle I am trying to use with this house of the Lord, but the 12-24mm may not be fully flattering to this magnificent structure. You be the judge.

Wonderful light at Bush Island

With all the recent rains and thunderstorm activity, I had a hunch the lighting along the coast of Highway 331 would produce dramatic light. I ventured out this morning before my duty shift to Bush Island and was duly rewarded for my thinking. The D80 and trusty VR zooms were the ticket to success.

Foggy Sabbath morning

I was about to embark on a drive to the city for a priesthood ordination, I thought it would be interesting light at the Penney farm as I could clearly see the heavy mist and fog forming. Of course, on higher hills, it's very dense and lingers. I had my "fast" glass kit with me, the D40's AF is touch and go in this kind of light.

Short walk, good photos!

I often amaze myself with what I can get without a lot of effort, to contrast those times I work hard for images and get crap. I took the D40 and 16-85mm VR for a 10-minute walk around the community, didn't go far, but look what I brought back to the laptop!

I love the lightweight form factor of the D40, I often wonder if I should pick up a D3000 while they are still in production and are cheap.
