New glass - Tamron SP 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Dii
I was in a bit of a quandary as I needed fast glass for an upcoming assignment for the Church, I ended up getting this sweet little zoom. It's so light! Most f/2.8 zooms are, by design, inherently a little heavy due to the amount of elements involved, this one is lighter than the 16-85mm VR. It has 67mm threads, just as do my other three zooms. To boot, it has a built-in motor so I can have AF with the D40, although it's not ultrasonic.
Th best part of all of this - the lens is made in Japan! That was a pleasant surprise. Ironically enough, my Nikon zooms (and both bodies) are made in Thailand.
I snapped a few quick files for evalauation, it seems this will be very useful for my demanding weekend of shooting.
