Happy 143rd birthday, Canada!
It seems that July 1st rolls around much faster than every 12 months, but we Canadians love a good party no matter what time of year it is. Typically, it was a nice bright and sunny day, not as humid as I recall in the past, but that's bad news for photographers who want to get the best images they can.
Happily, I have access to a secret weapon called Nikon's CLS (Creative Lighting System) with a pair of SB-800's and the SB-600. The partner in crime is the humble entry-level D40, it has that 1/500th second flash sync that few people appreciate and even can use. Fill flash photography is almost second-nature to me, now.
Anyway, I was very happy with what I was able to get especially the diversity.
The fireworks images were shot with the D80 as I have a dedicated cable release, an accessory that is really needed for time exposures, something the D40 lacks and really doesn't need.
Since these were mostly people photos, I did not do my usual juicing up of the colors as that tends not to work so well for skin tones, so these look more realistic.
Sadly, I now have to wait another whole year to do it all again.............
