I was able to snag a refurbishment D60 body for as astoundingly cheap $325 directly from Nikon Canada. It comes with a 6-month warranty but, essentially, it's a new camera. Of course, no waiting around to put the D60 through its paces as I needed to test it.
Some will ask "why does he need a THIRD camera body?" Well, the D40 is not a true back-up to the D80 since it has only 6MP - the D60 shares the 10.2MP sensor (made by Sony, incidentally) with the D80 so image quality is identical. Of course, the D40 is not ever going to be retired - I get enough situations where daylight fill-flash is needed and the 1/500th second flash sync is almost a must, plus its high-ISO is amazing for its era.
Thankfully, the D60 performs the exact same way as the D40 so it's easy to use. I note there is a sensor cleaning system, who knows it that really works? Anyway, the camera seems to be working just fine, thank you very much........
