A smattering of files from Peggy's Cove

I arrived at the Cove around 12:30pm, yesterday, I had packed all my DSLR gear in my big Domke F-1X bag, I planned on using the Coolpix 8400 as an exercise in training my eye and I had a wedding a few hours later - I didn't want to have any files on cards on either body to contend with if I needed that second camera, and they needed a bit of a rest.

Well, I had shot a lot of files with the CP 8400 and felt out of sorts by not having a Nikon DSLR around my neck; the tourists all seemed to have their own DSLR's, so out came my D40. I did restrain myself, somewhat...........At least I felt like I was part of the snobby visitors=)

The Coolpix images will come at a later date, I have to work the very dense RAW files from it.

A new business venture at Peggy's Cove

This chap just started up selling buoys and traps as a business pursuit, to supplement his fishing income which has been challenged as of late. It's interesting that he acknowledges the tourist industry is what is the big ticket in this picturesque community.

Another vacation is soon over..........

My second week of vacation has gone well, I have been busy doing "fun" stuff and I don't really miss work at all. I took a drive, this morning, around the horn of Highway 331, there is always something of great worth to find along that route.

Yesterday's visit to Ross Farm

What would a vacation be without at least one stop at the Farm? Armed with my new Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8, I was able to record a lot of useful files when facing limited inside lighting; flash often ruins the effect of the quality of natural available light.

The 70-300mm handled the foliage colors by the lake.

I am finding the colors with the new Tamron are very similar to those I get with the Nikon glass, and I don't have to tweak as much as I do, say, with the Sigma 50-150mm. Of course autumn is the perfect time to test out any new lens.

Still, I wish all my lenses had some sort of VR technology, although an f/2.8 maximum aperture is always very handy and useful on any lens.

More fall color magic

My second week of vacation has gone well, I have had the opportunity to wring out the new Tamron zoom. I have concluded there are no optical weaknesses with this lens, the only complaints I have concern the chattery built-in AF motor and the provided shade has no locking mechanism.

I had not been a fan of third-party lenses to this point, my eyes have been opened to the alternative they do provide.

Most of these files were recorded with the new Tamron zoom, the others are with the trusty Nikon 70-300mm VR.

Pumpkins and gourds

There is a farmer in West Northfield who is cultivating a tradition where he sets up this amazing display of autumn produce to sell. For photographers, this is a gold mine. I remember shooting this display a year ago as this is a reminder I have had the D80 and 16-85mm VR zoom for that same time frame.

The wagon wheel is just the perfect addition to the mix.
